Pushchair FAQs

When should I change from carrycot to pushchair?

Specialists recommend changing from a carrycot to a pushchair when the baby reaches 9kg or can sit up and roll over unassisted. Most babies reach this stage by six months old, but it's essential to leave them in the carrycot or a classic pram until at least three months, as they're safer options.

As soon as the baby can support itself (e.g. getting onto all fours), you can explore a lightweight pushchair.

When should I buy a pushchair if I am pregnant?

This varies from person to person. Some people prefer having everything picked and paid for in advance, while others like to wait until they're closer to the due date or have given birth. It depends on your preferences, but many strollers in our collection are highly popular and will sell out quickly.

We'd recommend buying in advance to avoid disappointment, but please get in touch with us if you're interested in any of our strollers.

Are pushchair prams suitable for newborns?

Yes, most prams are suitable from birth - 6 months. However, some aren't, so it's best to check before making a purchase. Babies usually lie flat until they reach the six-month mark, so you should only buy a pushchair pram, as the seat will have a lying down option.

As your baby grows, you can customise the seat to their needs, which is a popular option for budget-conscious parents, and it's also more convenient.

Do I really need to buy a pushchair?

Yes, a pushchair is one of the essential items for you and your baby. It allows you to get out and about and gives your baby fresh air and a chance to explore. Carrying your baby around isn't practical, and a pushchair is the safer option.

There are plenty of super compact options, and we go out of our way to offer pushchairs and prams that prioritise safety without compromising on convenience and portability.

What is the difference between a pushchair and stroller?

A pushchair tends to be a larger system with interchangeable parts, such as an infant car seat and carrycot. As your baby gets older, it'll be more mobile, and you can switch to a lightweight stroller, which is more portable and allows your child to explore when they want to.

What pushchair should I get?

At Baby Elegance, we have a range of stylish, safety-first pushchairs to choose from. Whether you're looking for something luxurious that grabs attention, or a budget-friendly option, you'll find everything you need to transport the little one.

Some of our most popular products come from brands such as Baby Elegance, Nuna, Quinny and UppaBaby to name a few.

Please contact our friendly team if you'd like to discover which pushchair is most suitable for your needs.

What should I look out for when buying a lightweight pushchair?

There's no one size fits all solution with pushchairs because your choice depends on your individual needs. Obviously, all new parents want to prioritise safety, so buying from a reputable brand is crucial.

Our team handpicks every brand on our website, leaving no stone unturned as we look at whether the pushchair is secure, what it's like to walk with, how portable it is and the extra features it offers.

Families in a town or the suburbs should prioritise pushchairs with good wheel suspension for long walks, while compact, folding pushchairs that navigate tight corners are best for cities.

It's also important to look for pushchairs with rain covers as you'll probably take your baby out in wet weather conditions.

Do your pushchairs require a lot of maintenance?

A good pushchair will last a long time without requiring much maintenance. All of our products are highly durable and easy to clean. All you need to do is check there's no dirt or debris in the wheels, and you're good to go.

How important is wheel suspension?

Pushchairs come with fixed and swivel wheels, where fixed wheels are great for runners, and front swivel systems ensure people can manoeuvre around corners and crowds.

Suspension is also vital because you want your little one to be comfortable, and the pushchair should have shock-absorbing qualities.

Baby Travel System FAQs

What is a baby travel system?

A travel system is an innovative solution for every parent travelling with their baby. The pushchair is interchangeable with your carrycot and infant car seat, so you can move your baby around without disturbing him/her.

How do I choose a travel system?

With so many travel systems available, choosing the right one for your baby's needs can seem overwhelming. While some people automatically assume the most expensive option is best, that's not always the case.

The best way to find a travel system is by considering your needs and budget. There are plenty of great systems, so don't be afraid to get out there and try them.

What is a travel system stroller?

Travel system strollers allow you to have all of the benefits a lightweight stroller offers, with the option to add a car seat. These strollers fold and can easily fit in your car boot but still offer the safety of a secure seat.

Are baby travel systems safe?

Absolutely! All travel systems in Ireland and the UK undergo a strict testing process before being available for retailers, so you can rest assured your travel system will be safe. We also pay special attention to each brand we stock, ensuring they meet our safety requirements.

You can also buy from the Baby Elegance range, which was created by our team and features a range of pushchairs and travel systems. We wanted to combine style with portability and give your baby a safe way to journey and explore.

Is Each Travel Infant CAR SEAT UNIVERSAL?

No! Some universal adaptors are available for travel systems, but you'll also have to check with your retailer if the travel system you're buying supports a universal adaptor. Our friendly customer service team is always available to offer support and advice if you have any questions.

How long do you get out of a travel system?

It depends on the travel system you buy, but most last from birth to either three years old or when the baby reaches 22kg.

When do I switch from a 3 in 1 baby travel system to a baby stroller?

If your travel system is getting heavy and bulky to lug around for your toddler, it might be time to switch to a stroller. Check the weight limit on your travel system - this is usually between 15 kg to 22 kg.

How much do baby travel systems cost?

The great thing about these systems is they come at all price points. For example, budget models could come in at under €250, while mid-range systems are usually up to €600.

For example, our very own Baby Elegance collection has a range of travel systems, including the Cupla 2 in 1 travel system, which costs £540 but offers everything you could want from a travel system.

Then we have the premium options, such as Bugaboo, which often come with hefty price tags. For example, the Bugaboo Fox range can cost around €750, while the Bugaboo 3 system, with accessories including the raincover and cup holder, is €1,279.

The right travel system for your needs should be within budget and top quality. You don't have to spend a fortune on a premium travel system, as many mid-range options offer the same quality and construction without additional cost.
